Steel Mill Pictures has gone into production on its third feature, CHERRY TREE LANE, in partnership with The UK Film Council, The Salt Company and Metrodome Distribution to begin principal photography on 16th July 2009 in location in north London.
The urban thriller has been written and will be directed by PAUL ANDREW WILLIAMS [LONDON TO BRIGHTON, THE COTTAGE]. The film will be distributed in the UK by Metrodome whilst Salt will handle international sales. CHERRY TREE LANE has been funded from the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, headed by Lenny Crooks.
PAUL ANDREW WILLIAMS, Writer Director [LONDON TO BRIGHTON, THE COTTAGE] said:
“CHERRY TREE LANE, for me, is a film that needs to be looked at on many levels. On the surface we are talking about an extremely horrific event that takes place, in real time, to an innocent family. It is tense, harrowing and even disturbing at times and how these elements are handled, dramatically and cinematically will determine the final style of the film. It is closer in style to London to Brighton creatively, but the social issues it brings to the fore and the currency of the subject matter will mean it has broad cinematic appeal.”
Sara Frain, General Manager, METRODOME said:
"Paul Andrew Williams is one of the most talented filmmakers to emerge in British cinema over the last few years and his directorial vision for Cherry Tree Lane is a perfect fit with Metrodome’s strategy in releasing quality British films.”
Samantha Horley, Managing Director, The Salt Company said:
“Whilst being a movie with a terrifying message, Paul also manages to deliver an extraordinarily dramatic and cinematic punch. This could happen to any of us, it is our worst nightmare. It’s a cautionary tale as well as being a blood-curdling horror story for grown-ups.”
Lenny Crooks, Head of the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund said:
“I am delighted that Paul, one of the UK’s most exciting and visually ambitious filmmakers, has brought his new project to the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, a home for nurturing and supporting British talent. Paul’s naturalistic style in unfolding intense human dramas will be perfect in the telling of this daring story.”
